South Korea Flag

Key Updates

Starting January 1, 2025, South Korea will implement changes to its foreign residence card system. The updates include:

  • Fee Increase: The cost for foreign residence cards, including Overseas Korean Residence Cards, will rise from W30,000 to W35,000.
  • Enhanced Security Features: The updated cards will include an integrated IC chip to store personal identification numbers, improving security.

Impact on Current Cardholders

Existing foreign residence cards will remain valid until their expiration date. There is no requirement to replace current cards unless they have expired.

Conclusion

These updates reflect South Korea’s commitment to enhancing the security and functionality of foreign residence cards. While the fee increase is modest, the improved security features offer additional peace of mind for cardholders. Ensure you’re prepared for these changes if you plan to obtain or renew your foreign residence card in 2025.
